The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the United States against five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.
European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe such as the French president charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans were placed on figures who have been central to efforts to enact legislation governing American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
